The young man poses both unashamedly and confidently while presenting his body in a favourable light. Idealised features and a frontal perspective make him look down on his viewers an almost patronising look. They view a perfect, masculine face – if that little mishap hadn’t happened just before this moment was captured on canvas: man’s most well-known accident in everyday life, the unloved razor cut. Apparently disturbing perfection, the cheek is emblazoned with a bloody cut. Regardless, the young man is undeterred and holds his pose, enhancing his graceful and self-confident effect on the viewer.
*The Imperfections series shows the aesthetics of the supposedly unsightly: the baroque splendor of the protagonists staged is in deliberate contradiction to the humorous use of elements or situations from our contemporary everyday life – united in a harmonious total work of art.
